A Teenagers Acne – The Causes and Treatments

While acne is very common among teens, many adults suffer from it too. Both men and women can develop acne until they are 40 years old. Breakouts are quite common in adults as it is in teens. However, most teens tend to outgrow their acne problems. And these lucky few don’t have to deal with them as an adult.

Acne is the collective term given to the range of skin problems usually affecting the face, chest, and back. Whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, cysts, and pustules are all Acne in different shapes and form. These skin imperfections are usually caused by the irritated oil glands found on the different parts of the body.

When one gets into the puberty stage, the oil glands get overworked. When bacteria get into the skin pores, the opening of these oil glands is blocked, causing a build up of oil beneath the surface. The bacteria use the oil to propagate, making the tissues around the affected area become inflamed.

Such inflammations would either become a pustule or a pimple. If it is much deeper, it could become a cyst. Oil breaking through the surface is called a whitehead. When it becomes oxidized or if it combines with melanin, it becomes blackheads.

The causes of acne can be attributed to heredity, food, dirt, stress, hormones, and cosmetics. Other causes might be the side effects of certain drugs, and one’s own occupation. While these are known factors, they don’t cause the actual outbreak of Acne directly – only make it worse in some cases.

There’s really no need to treat acne if it is not severe, it will just disappear in a few days. If the Acne becomes a discomfort, there are many home remedies that can be made at home and can help to solve the problem. Other Treatments may be given by doctors or health experts, when the acne becomes more severe. You can also prevent and treat acne on your own by keeping good hygiene, unclogging your pores regularly, killing bacteria, and minimizing oil secretion.

The basic preventions for acne breakout are, a good night sleep, proper diet, drinking eight glasses of water daily, and living a generally healthy and non stressful lifestyle. Preventing acne is better than treating it. If you don’t have an outbreak at the moment and would like to stay clear of one, be sure to wash your face with an antibacterial and oil-reducing cleanser before going to bed.

On the other hand, if there is an acne outbreak on your face now, it is best that you consult with a dermatologist before you begin using any medication to treat it. Acne, especially pimples, pustules, and cyst, can be too stubborn to remove and can even leave scars. Also any wrong medication could cause further infection and make things worse.

Doctors would normally recommend cleansing the skin with Benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These kinds of face washes and gels are available at the nearest pharmacy. Some doctors may also prescribe the use of Resorcinol or sulfur as an alternative. Sulfur or a milder spot cream can be applied on the pimpled areas at night. For teenagers who suffer from severe acne outbreaks, prescription drugs may be recommended by a health expert. The best way is to consult your doctor.
