Enjoying the Outdoors to Get Physically Fit
Hi everyone,
Been working hard and playing a little less during Hay season here at my place. Again I was outdoors and being healthy even during hay season. I loaded the hay into my truck and delivered it to customers. I don’t make much money but it is enough to pay the cost of cutting the hay from my fields and the organic dairy uses my land to supply his cows feed. Why do I mention my hay? Because being outdoors benefits you, even if sometimes it is more like work than fun.I think anything outdoors that makes you burn calories is fun because you don’t feel like you are doing a workout. Your mind is free to relax not distracted by some TV or music that is meant to make the dreaded workout easier. When your doing something that is productive and exercising with nature it feels different. No routine or reps to keep track of while you count down your dreaded workout, but rather a simple task that when you finish you feel good about. When was the last time the treadmill workout cleaned up a yard, or fixed your roof? Did you see any real creatures or landscape? It seems like a duh thing for me. More enjoyable and more productive of a workout is healthy.
For example, I take a lot of photos for fun. By the time I get done moving around for all the right angles and using my noggin I’m getting a little exercise. A day in my raft is always awesome but again a real job hauling it around. Build something or maybe just go to the stream and throw rocks, your interest will make the exercise seem almost like a game.
Now I wouldn’t say that outdoor cleaning is the tops on my list. Dragging branches and yard debris to my compost is not my favorite thing to do, but I always try to find that connection while I’m outdoors. There is usually the view, the sounds, and the feel of the season. These distractions help make the time so much better. Soon enough the day will end, and you will have done something you feel good about.
If you don’t usually get outdoors and want to see for yourself how easily you can improve you life in all sorts of ways. Get yourself up and plan a day outside to the nearest place you can and take one hour for you. Plan anything you want to do for an hour outside, wonder and roam wherever it may take you. But make it a walking or moving around thing, anything will do. I always encourage family fun. The price is right and it is all up to you, what you do. When you find those things outdoors that really keep you coming back, you will be surprised how short an hour is.
For you outdoor newbies, one thing has always impressed me about physical ability in the outdoors. I might be able to move a boulder, log, or do some other physical thing that is far beyond what I thought I could do. Why?? Because it doesn’t have a label on it, that says how heavy it is, or how far, or how long. The motivation empowers you to just do it, and then you will realize that there is more of that energy just waiting inside you.
